LADY RAMS RIDE STREAK TO FOUR
February 6, 2010

 

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (14-6, 10-3 RRAC) won their fourth game in a row, taking down Paul Quinn College (3-16, 0-12 RRAC) 77-54 at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday night.

 

The Lady Tigers kept the game close despite having only one sub, and, with a jumper from Ashley Washington with 11:38 remaining in the half, the Lady Rams held an 18-14 advantage over Paul Quinn. Wesleyan started to pull away late in the first half as a layup from Brittany Lewis gave the Lady Rams a 13 point advantage with 5:08 to go in the first half. The Lady Rams took a 34-27 lead going into the break.

 

Paul Quinn came out firing at the start of the second half.  With a triple from Lashia Walker, and a lay-up from Jasmine Stevenson the Lady Tigers cut the Wesleyan lead to 34-32 with 18:51 left on the clock.

 

The Lady Rams showed their explosiveness by rattling off a 10-0 run and took with a comfortable 54-39 lead with 9:22 left in the game. Wesleyan only built their lead from there and led by as many as 29 points at the 2:30 mark. The deficit was too much for the Lady Tigers to overcome, and Wesleyan took a 77-54 conference win.

 

The Lady Rams shot 42.1% from the field and 72.7% from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers shot 33.3% from the field and 53.8% from the charity line. The Lady Rams picked up 44 points in the paint versus the Lady Tigers’ 22 points. Texas Wesleyan scored 20 fast break points to the Lady Tigers eight points. Wesleyan out rebounded Paul Quinn 52-36.

 

Ashley Davis picked up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also had seven assists. Tiffany Adair followed with 13 points and five boards. Brittany White also notched a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

 

The Lady Rams look to improve the streak to five as they travel to take on Bacone College in Muskogee, OK, on Monday, February 8. That game scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
