FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (1-2) dropped both ends of a doubleheader with third ranked Oklahoma City University (2-0) at Sycamore Park on Saturday. The Stars took game one 6-4 and game two 18-0.
In game one, the ball was not bouncing Texas Wesleyan’s way. The Rams had the game in hand early. Back-to-back doubles from Nick Schrock and Leighton Rush in the third inning put the Rams on top 3-0. The Rams added a sac fly from Justin Keller in the fifth.
Meanwhile Oklahoma City managed just two hits off of Kody Thiebaud a two-run home run from Brian Fisher in the fifth and a solo shot from Kirk Vitale in the sixth.
The Rams entered the seventh inning of the seven inning ballgame with a 4-3 lead. The inning started with Mark Purser reaching on an error. Dearth Parker then singled off the mound to tie the game. Later in the inning a ground ball from Matt Presley hopped over the head of Rush at shortstop plating two more runs, and the Stars came away with the 6-4 win.
Theibaud received no decision after allowing three runs on two hits while striking out five in 5.2 innings. Matt Chutchian (0-1) took the loss after allowing three unearned runs on two hits in 1.1 innings.
Brad Riddle (1-0) picked up the win with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief work.
The Stars started hot in game two, scoring five runs in a first inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Matt Presley. Oklahoma City added six more runs in a third inning rally highlighted by a three-run homer from TJ Jackson.
The Stars scored five runs on five hits including three doubles to bring the score to 16-0 in the fourth inning. Oklahoma City added a two-run double from Steve Vitale in the seventh to account for the 18-0 final score.
Mike Richard (1-0) tossed all seven innings allowing just four hits and four walks while striking out four. T.D. Huett (0-1) took the loss for Texas Wesleyan. Morgan Marr went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Rams in the loss.
The Rams will return to action on Sunday when they host top-ranked Lubbock Christian University at LaGrave Field. Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
