The Pirates got on the board first with an RBI single from John Wooten in the top of the first. An RBI single from Kyle Belski brought the score to 2-0 in the second.
The Rams did most of their damage after loading the bases with no outs in the fifth. Jesus Mireles and Ryan Jacobi started the inning with consecutive bunt singles. A walk to Nick Schrock loaded the bases, and Mireles got the Rams on the board when he scored on a wild pitch. Morgan Marr then delivered the big blow with a three-run home run to straight-away left field. Mike Horn doubled in the bottom of the eighth inning. Matt Taylor ran for Horn and later scored from third when Jacobi got in a run-down between first and second.
Kody Thiebaud (1-0) got the win after working 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed two hits while striking out two. Matt Chutchian nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth inning. Chris Churchwell (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in four plus innings of work.
The Rams return to action Friday and Saturday when they host two of the top three teams in the country. Texas Wesleyan will take on third ranked Oklahoma City University in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday before facing top-ranked Lubbock Christian University in a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. |

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (1-0) took a 5-2 opening day win over Southwestern University (1-1) at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
