FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Jamel White has been named Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period of January 25-31. White shared the award with Ronnie Battle of Bacone College.
White, a senior forward from Brooklyn, NY, averaged 30 points per game, all from the bench, in a 2-1 week for Texas Wesleyan. White posted 32 points, six rebounds and seven assists in a 95-89 defeat of Langston University (OK). He then scored a season-high 37 in an overtime win over Huston-Tillotson University (TX) and topped off the week with 21 in a loss to Our Lady of the Lake University (TX). For the week, White shot 53.1% from the field (26-of-49) including dropping in 11 three-pointers. He also added 17 rebounds, 13 assists and eight steals for the Rams, who are 9-1 in conference play and 16-5 overall.
Battle, a senior forward from Elgin, OK, averaged 32 points and 13.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Warriors.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they host Texas College. That game will be featured as Think Pink Day at Texas Wesleyan. Fans are invited to wear pink to the game in support of the fight against breast cancer. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center. |
