FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (11-6, 7-2 RRAC) picked up an easy 102-75 victory against the Huston-Tillotson University Lady Rams (7-12, 4-5 RRAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday night.
The Lady Rams jumped out to a 5-3 lead with 18:02 left in the first half with a lay up from Tiffany Adair. Huston-Tillotson’s Ashley Bell tied the game at 5-5 with two free throw shots with 17:51 left in the half. Wesleyan then rattled off a 15-2 run that put the Lady Rams on top with a 20-6 lead with 11:45 remaining. It was all Wesleyan for the rest of the half as Ashley Davis led the charge with 11 first half points and four rebounds and the Lady Rams took a 50-25 lead at the break.
The second half showcased more of the same, and the Lady Rams seemed to score at will, maintaining a comfortable 20-point lead throughout most of the period. The Lady Rams proved to be too much for Huston-Tillotson, and the Wesleyan Rams took a 102-75 victory. With the win the Lady Rams improve to 7-2 in conference play and are currently third in the Red River Conference standings.
Wesleyan had 20 points off of turnovers, and 22 fast break points. The Lady Rams also received 24 points from their bench in the win.
Six Lady Rams reached double figures in the win. Davis led the Lady Rams with 19 points. She went 8-13 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line. Brittany White was 6-10 from the field and picked up 15 points and added seven rebounds. Adair went 7-10 with 15 points in the win. Eliana Mijangos added 14 points of her own and Tiffany Johnson shined with 13 points off the bench.
The Lady Rams shot 56.1 percent from the field, an impressive 50.0 from behind the arc, and 67.9 percent from the charity line. The Huston-Tillotson Lady Rams shot 40.6 percent from the field, 8.3 percent from the three point line, and 61.1 percent from the free throw line.
The Lady Rams travel to San Antonio, TX, to take on conference opponent Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. |
