LANGSTON, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (10-6, 6-2 RRAC) suffered a 93-59 loss at the hands of Langston University (12-6, 9-0) on Monday.
In the first half, the Lions’ stifling defense held Texas Wesleyan to just 18% shooting (7-39) from the floor. After Texas Wesleyan led 9-8 nearly six minutes into the game, Langston ripped off 12 unanswered points to take control. The Lions then stretched their lead to 37-21 at the intermission.
The Lady Rams made a push at the start of the second half. Tiffany Adair and Eliana Mijangos combined to score the first seven points of the second half to cut the deficit to nine points at 37-28, but three three-pointers from Sanetra Jackson highlighted a 23-7 run that put the game away for the Lions.
Langston hit 12 three’s in the game including ten in the second half. The Lady Rams shot 43% in the second half, but were outshot 46%-30% for the game.
Mijangos led the Rams with 10 points. Three Lady lions posted double-doubles led by Jackson’s 21 points and 10 rebounds. Stephanie Madden added 19 points and 17 rebounds while Latesha Calton-Woods finished with 13 points and 10 boards.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, January 28, when they host Huston-Tillotson University. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center. |
