FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (10-5, 6-1 RRAC) downed conference foe Jarvis Christian College (6-10, 3-4 RRAC) in a 64-60 thriller at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday night.
Jarvis got on the board first, with a good jumper from Karina Uresti, but Eliana Mijangos and the Lady Rams answered right back with a three point shot with 19:23 left on the clock and took a 3-2 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs kept up with the Lady Rams midway through the first half, but foul trouble led to a 23-12 Lady Ram lead with 6:20 remaining in the first half, the largest lead of the ballgame. Jarvis made up some ground in the last minutes of the first half, and Wesleyan took a five-point 34-28 halftime advantage.
The Lady Bulldogs gnawed their way back into the ballgame early in the second half, and with 12:06 left in the game, a Jarvis lay up from Roshundra Caldwell tied the game at 44 a piece. Jarvis took the lead with a three pointer from Rameitha Buford making it 47-44 with 10:44 left on the clock.
Not to be out done, the Lady Rams took a 54-52 lead with a clutch jumper from Andria Mitchell with 5:41 left in the game. The Lady Rams held off any hopes of a Lady Bulldog comeback and took a hard fought 64-60 win.
The Lady Rams shot 42 percent from the field, 33 percent from downtown, and 65 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Ram bench was responsible for 27 points in the win.
Kristi Alexander led the Lady Rams with 12 points, going 4-6 from the field, and was perfect from the charity line. Brittany White finished with nine points, eight rebounds, and Ashley Davis had eight points with five boards in the win.
The Lady Rams will travel to Langston, OK, to take on Langston University on Monday, January 25. That game scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start. |
