LADY RAMS FALL TO SAGU
January 14, 2010

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (8-5, 4-1 RRAC) lost their first conference game of the season, falling to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (10-3, 3-1 RRAC) 61-44 on Thursday night.

Both teams volleyed for the lead early in a defensive showdown that lasted the entire half. The Lady Lions stepped out to an early lead by a pair of three point shots from Stephanie Hawkins and Heather Jefferson, making it a 10-4 ball game five minutes in.

The Lady Rams struggled to get any momentum shifted in their favor, going on 5:16 dry spell as the Lady Lions made a 9-0 run to make it 27-15 with 1:45 remaining in the half.

The Lady Rams got a lift as Eliana Mijangos hit two huge three point buckets to close the deficit to a 27-21 SAGU lead at the break.

Both teams shot poorly in the first half, SAGU shooting 29.6 percent to the Lady Rams’ 30.8 percent. The difference was free throw shooting as SAGU shot 80.0 percent from the line, while the Lady Rams struggled and shot 37.5 percent.

In the second half the Lady Rams had trouble finding the net and couldn’t carry that end of the first half momentum into the second half. The Lady Rams shot 25.0 percent from the field in the second half, and they continued to struggle from behind the arc.

Hawkins led the Lady Lions with 13 points. Jefferson and Chelsea Jones each finished with 11 points.

Mijangos led all scorers with 15 points. Andria Mitchell posted nine points and eight rebounds in the contest. Brittany Lewis had five boards and three blocks for the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams look to get back in the win column on Monday, January 18, when they battle the University of the Southwest Lady Mustangs in a Red River Athletic Conference match up. That game scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
