LADY RAMS BLAST BACONE

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (8-4) improved to 4-0 in conference play with a win over the Bacone College Lady Warriors (5-5, 1-2 RRAC) on Monday night.

Texas Wesleyan kept building momentum throughout the ballgame, never trailing the Lady Warriors. A layup from Bacone’s Briana Byers tied the game at two all with 18:31 left in the first half, but that was the closest the Lady Warriors got to the Lady Ram lead. The Lady Rams went on a 13-2 run in the first half that gave them a comfortable lead at 20-7 with 12:02 left in the first half of play.

The Lady Warriors fought back and went on a 12-0 run and trailed 20-19 with 8:08 left in the half before Brittany White hit a jumper that ignited an 18-0 run to bring the score to a 40-20 Wesleyan advantage with 1:38 left in the first half.  Both teams surged to halftime and the score going into the break read a 44-30 Lady Ram lead.

The Lady Rams showed their dominance against the press in the second half and took advantage of free throws as Tiffany Adair made one from the charity line that gave Wesleyan a 31 point lead at 82-51 with 4:19 left in the contest, the Lady Rams’ biggest lead of the night.

The Lady Rams went on to finish off the Lady Warriors with an 88-61 win.  Texas Wesleyan had 38 points off of turnovers to Bacone’s 10. The Lady Rams also threw down 26 fast break points to the Lady Warriors six. The Lady Rams were solid from the free throw line hitting 23-of-27.

Ashley Davis led all players with 22 points.  She was 7-of-15 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Brittany White posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards in the contest.  Tiffany Adair picked up 16 points and five assists in the win.

The Lady Rams take on conference opponent Southwestern Assemblies of God University at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday, January 14. Game time between the Lady Rams and the Lady Lions is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
