RAMS MOVE TO 4-0 IN RRAC
January 11, 2010

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 17th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (11-4, 4-0 RRAC) took a 78-71 win over Bacone College (4-7, 0-3) in the Sid Richardson Center on Monday.

The first half saw six ties and four lead changes.  The Rams began to pull away in the final minute of the period, taking their largest lead at 37-30, but Bacone’s Ronnie Battle hit a three to cut the margin to four points at the break.

After committing 12 turnovers in the first half, the Rams limited their mistakes in the second  half.  After Battle made it a two point game, 53-51, with a jumper midway through the period, a Terrell Henry three-pointer sparked seven unanswered points for Texas Wesleyan.  The lead swelled to 12 points at 67-55 with just under six minutes to play, and the Rams never allowed the Warriors to get back within striking distance.

For the game, the Rams outshot the Warriors 49%-34%, and led 16-7 in fast break points.

“Bacone played very hard tonight,” commented head coach Terry Waldrop.  “They came in here with something to prove and they have a very good ball team.  We have got to get better and limit the mistakes.  We have not begun to tap the potential that this group has.”

Jamel White led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 5-8 from long range.  Hector Mukweyi finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Brian Wanamaker contributed 18 points and Jeremy Smith finished with 10 for the Rams.  Battle led the Warriors with 22 points on 9-of-25 shooting and 11 rebounds.

The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University.  That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
