DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (7-4, 3-0 RRAC) took its fifth consecutive win with an 83-54 victory at Paul Quinn College (3-6, 0-2) on Saturday.
The Lady Rams jumped on Paul Quinn early, holding the Tigers to just four points in the first ten minutes while opening a 22-4 advantage. Texas Wesleyan held its largest lead of the half at 35-16. Meanwhile Ashley Davis poured in 19 first half points, and the Lady Rams went to the locker room up 41-25.
Eliana Mijangos took over in the second half. The sophomore guard drained five three-pointers in the first 6:15 of the period, and the Lady Rams opened the half on a 21-2 run. Texas Wesleyan took its largest lead of the game at 75-45 after a pair of free throws from Kaci Strother with 8:19 on the clock. From there, Texas Wesleyan cruised to the 83-54 win.
For the game, the Rams shot 41.8% from the field and 43.8% (7-16) from long range while holding Paul Quinn to 28.8% shooting. The Rams also shot 74.1% (20-27) from the free throw line and led the battle-of-the-boards 57-40.
Davis and Mijangos both tossed in season-highs with 21 points each. Mia Brooks led Paul Quinn with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Rams will return to the Sid Richardson Center on Monday, when they host Bacone College. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. |
