DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (10-4, 3-0 RRAC) took a 76-48 win at Paul Quinn College (2-6, 0-2) on Saturday.
The Rams came out hot, shooting 62.5% in the first half while holding Paul Quinn to just 32%. Texas Wesleyan started the game on a 14-4 run and led by as many as 18 (39-2) on their way to a 39-23 lead at the break.
After Paul Quinn’s Brandon Thompson scored the first bucket of the second half, the Rams ripped off 15 unanswered points to put the game away. The lead swelled to as many as 37 (72-35) and the Rams rolled on to the 76-48 victory.
For the game, the Rams shot 54.7% from the field while holding Paul Quinn to 31.5%. A 39-29 rebounding advantage allowed the Rams to run the court. Texas Wesleyan outscored Paul Quinn 38-6 on the fast break.
Jeremy Smith led all scorers with 20 points. Hector Mukweyi added 14 points and Terrell Henry finished with 11 points in the win. Paul Quinn was led by Trevor Kendrick’s 13 points.
“It’s important that we were able to get production from our bench,” commented head coach Terry Waldrop. “We spread the minutes around tonight, and everyone put in productive minutes. That is critical as we play so many games so close together in January and February. The defense was solid, and we were able to set the tempo tonight.”
The Rams will return to the Sid Richardson Center on Monday, when they host Bacone College. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. |
