FORT WORTH, TX: The Sooner Athletic Conference announced today its 2018 Women's Golf All-Conference team and individual award winners. The SAC Champion Lady Rams notched two All-Conference players and swept the individual Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year awards.
All-Conference distinction was reserved for only the top-five players in the league as voted upon by the SAC's nine head coaches.
Alex Schies - 4-time SAC Player of the Year
Alex Schies made history by becoming a four-time SAC Player of the Year. She currently leads the NAIA with a season scoring average of 73.86, which if the season ended today, would best her own school record (75.54) by nearly two strokes. In nine tournaments this season, Schies has finished in the top-5 seven times including four wins, winning back-to-back tournaments on two separate occasions. Over the weekend, she won her second consecutive SAC Individual Championship while leading the Rams to their first title. It was the eighth career tournament victory for the three-time 1st-team NAIA All-American selection.
Trudy Allen joined Schies on the All-Conference team while
Kevin Millikan was named SAC Coach of the Year for the second time and
Emily Hunt was named SAC Freshman of the Year.
OCU's Savannah Moody and Melissa Eldredge as well as Wayland Baptist's Marina Gallegos were also named All-Conference.
Trudy Allen - All-Conference
Allen played in seven tournaments this year and notched a scoring average of 76.28 which ranks fourth all-time in six season of Texas Wesleyan Women's Golf. She finished in the top-10 six times and notched five top-5 finishes including a runner-up at Bellevue's Spring Break Classic at Brackenridge.
Emily Hunt - SAC Freshman of the Year
Hunt played all nine tournaments and notched a scoring average of 78.68 which is the second best of any Texas Wesleyan freshman behind only Schies' mark of 76.92 in 2014-15. She finished in the top-20 five times including a third place finish at the Claud Jacobs Invitational at Colony Creek and a fifth place finish at OCU's Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at Lincoln Park.
Kevin Millikan - 2-time SAC Coach of the Year
Millikan started the women's golf program at Texas Wesleyan in 2012 and has quickly built the team into a national power. As SAC Champion, the Rams have clinched a fourth consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Tournament where they finished in the top-10 in each of their three previous appearances. Millikan was also named SAC Coach of the Year in 2015.
This season, the Rams have been ranked 5th in the NAIA throughout the season. They posted seven top-5 finishes including four victories and a pair of runner-up finishes. Last weekend, they picked up their first SAC Championship when they bested No. 13 Oklahoma City by seven strokes at Lincoln Park in Oklahoma City.
The team will host its 5th Annual Lady Rams Golf Classic at Southern Oaks on April 30. They will travel to Palm Beach, FL May 22-25 to take part in the NAIA National Championship at PGA National.
