FORT WORTH, TX: The 9th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Women's Golf team opened the 2017-18 season with a win at their own Hawks Creek Invitational on Tuesday. The Rams took the title by eight shots over McLennan College.
The victory is just the second for the young program. Head Coach
Kevin Millikan has quickly turned the Rams, now in their sixth season, into a nationally rated program. The team's first victory came during the 2014-15 season, when they won at Southern Arkansas' Mulerider Spring Classic.
At Hawks Creek, the Rams entered the final round with a nine-shot advantage and carded a round of 308 to hold off McLennan.
The team's second round 302 was the program's best at Hawks Creek as was their 36-hole score of 608 and 54-hole score of 916.
Three-time Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year
Alex Schies finished in a tie for third amongst 48 individuals at +4 for the tournament. Sophomore
Trudy Allen was also named to the All-Tournament team after finishing tied for fifth at +10.
Tyler Junior College's Mathilde Bertuol followed up a second round -3 with an even par round on Tuesday to take the individual win at even par for the tournament.
Emily Hunt cracked the top-ten in her collegiate debut with a score of 230, good for a tie for tenth.
Jacinda Chan placed 15th and
Madalyn Fee finished 22nd.
Aubrey Zastoupil and
Jaci Trotter played as individuals and placed T22 and 27th respectively.
The Lady Rams will return to action October 9-10 at Dallas Baptist University's DBU Women's Fall Classic at Golf Club of Dallas.

- The Lady Rams have finished in the top-10 of 18 consecutive tournaments dating back to October of 2015.
- The Lady Rams had placed third in this tournament in each of the last three seasons, while Schies was the tournament's runner-up last season and was the individual medalist in 2015.
