DAYTONA BEACH, FL: The 9th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team placed second at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Eagle Invitational behind an individual win from sophomore
Alex Schies.
It was also announced on Tuesday that Schies was named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Golf Player of the Week for her performance at last week's Midwestern State Invitational. At that tournament, she was the Rams' top player with a T21 finish.
Schies rode a school-record 68 in round one on the par 73 Jones Course at LPGA International to the win this week. Low temperatures and high winds led to elevated scores in Tuesday's final round. Schies shot the second best round of the day at 80 on Tuesday and easily held off Embry-Riddle's MacKenzie Cunningham who shot 74, 77 (151).
The win was the third of Schies' career (second this season), making her the school's career leader in wins and the first player to take multiple wins in a single season.
The team victory went to the host Eagles who finished at 633 for the tournament. The Rams were second at 652 after a final round 341.
Jacey Patton finished fourth in the field of 48 golfers at 158.
Maisy Turner tied for 17th.
Rachel Zastoupil tied for 20th, and
Stephanie Myers tied for 29th to round out Texas Wesleyan's scores.
The Lady Rams will return to action April 11-12 at Oklahoma City University's Spring Championship at Lincoln Park.
