Rams Give Scarves to the Homeless

FORT WORTH, TX:  Just before Spring Break, members of the Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team participated in a special service product.  The team, which has been raising money by selling team scarves, took those scarves and gave them to members of Fort Worth's homeless community free of charge.

The team had received an overstock in their shipment of scarves, and head coach Tyler Powell decided to pass them on rather than sell them.

Members of the team went up and down Lancaster Ave. in the area of the Presbyterian Night Shelter, handing out scarves.  "It was an extremely rewarding experience," said team captain Ross McArthur.  "It made you realize how little they actually have, and it's great to give them something so simple to make their day."

In 2015, the Presbyterian Nigh Shelter served over 90% of the area's homeless population while 1,020 clients were helped to transition to safe and appropriate housing.  The shelter also provided nearly half a million meals in 2015.

"We are always looking for different ways to help our community," said head coach Tyler Powell.  "In this case, we were sent extra scarves and decided to pay it forward.  The guys saw what a difference it made after they passed the scarves out.  It is something small that can brighten someone's day."

Powell is coming off of his fifth season at the helm of the Texas Wesleyan men's soccer program.  Under his guidance the Rams have had five consecutive winning seasons.  With his next win he will become the school's all-time winningest coach, matching Alex Alkhazsvilly's 52 wins.
