FORT WORTH, TX:
Alex Schies notched her 2nd career win while leading the 10th ranked Texas Wesleyan Women's Golf team to a 3rd place finish at their own Hawks Creek Invitational at Hawks Creek Country Club on Tuesday. Schies bested Maddy Buhler of the University of the Incarnate Word on the first playoff hole for the victory.
UIW made up a 10-stroke deficit entering the final round to win with a 54-hole score of 935, three shots better than McLennan Community College. The Lady Rams finished four shots off the pace. Wayland Baptist (948) and Angelo State (949) rounded out the top-5.
Schies finished at 6-over par, but Buhler shot even in the final round to make up four shots and tie for the lead amongst 60 individuals. The two went to a playoff and Schies finished off the win on the 18th green.
Wayland Baptist's Natalie Ugalde (+8), McLennan's Gianti Mahardhika (+11), Wayland Baptist's Hannah Duvall (+14), and Lubbock Christian's Shanae Ammons (+14) were also named to the All-Tournament team, finishing in the top-5.
Taylor Icenberger carded a 75 in the final round to tie for 7th at 233.
Maisy Turner tied for 27th with
Jacey Patton at 244, and
Rachel Zastoupil shot 252 to tie for 46th.
The Texas Wesleyan B Team was led by
Elena Sinde Romero and
Stephanie Myers who shot 250 to finish tied for 36th.
The Lady Rams will return to action October 5-6 at Sam Houston State University's Bearkat Women's Invitational at Raven Nest in Huntsville, TX
