VICTORIA, TX: The 15th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's golf team finished third in a field that included ten nationally ranked teams at the University of Houston-Victoria's Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate at Victoria Country Club. Freshman
Alex Schies notched the young program's second individual title.
Schies rode an opening round 68 to the win amongst 72 individuals. She followed up with rounds of 76 and 74 to finish at +2 218, two shots ahead of Houston-Victoria's Heather Shake and Wayland Baptist's Hannah Duval.
Schies dominated the par-5's, leading all players at 6-under on those holes. For the tournament, she posted 11 birdies.
The Rams shot a round of 315 on Tuesday in spite of weather conditions that featured a 25 degree drop in temperature from the beginning of the round to the end. The Rams finished at 917 for the tournament, good for their third top-5 finish of the season. No. 9 UHV took the win at 902, while No. 13 Wayland Baptist was second at 910. No. 12 CSU-San Marcos (920) and No. 4 Oklahoma City (923) rounded out the top-5.
Alexis Belton tied for 5th, just four shots behind Schies.
Jacey Patton tied for 30th at 238.
Taylor Icenberger tied for 34th at 240, and
Stephanie Kalapach placed 49th at 249.
The Lady Rams will return to action March 9-10 at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Invitational t Tanglewood in Potsboro, TX, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
