FORT WORTH, TX: The Red River Athletic Conference has announced its 2012 Softball All-Conference team and five members of the Conference Champion Texas Wesleyan University squad were among those honored.
Head Coach Shannon Gower was named RRAC Coach of the Year, while sophomore pitcher
Alexis Beltran was named Newcomer of the Year and shortstop
Raven Moreno was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Joining Beltran and Moreno on the All-RRAC team were third baseman
Lindsay Cline, designated player
Ashleigh Jiminez, and outfielder
Marissa Rangel.
Beltran is currently 18-4 on the season (including a perfect 14-0 in RRAC competition) with a 2.00 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 143.2 innings pitched. She led the conference in wins and opponent batting average at .209, and ranked second in ERA and strikeouts per game (6.98). The right-hander tossed all 23 innings in three Red River Athletic Conference Tournament games. In the tournament, she allowed just three earned runs while powering the regular season champs to their first RRAC Tournament title. Beltran missed out on Pitcher of the Year honors which went to Northwood University’s Taylor Jones who posted a 5-7 record with a 1.92 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 94.2 innings.
Moreno is hitting .314 on the season with a home run and 23 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 13 attempts. She also notched a .957 fielding percentage while making just six errors at shortstop. Cline is hitting .351 with six home runs and 24 RBI. Rangel is batting .353 with a home run and 20 RBI, and Jiminez is hitting .385 with a home run and 24 RBI.
The Lady Rams have appeared in three consecutive RRAC Championship games. With this weekend’s tournament win, the Lady Rams have secured their first trip to the NAIA National Tournament which will be held in Gulf Shores, AL, May 17-23.
