FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (4-4) took a loss 3-0 to NCAA DIV III #20 University of Texas at Dallas (1-0) by scores of 25-15, 27-25, and 25-16 at the Sid Richardson Center Wednesday night.

The Lady Rams did not make it easy for the Lady Comets early in the first set never trailing by more by more than three at 13-10. Wesleyan did not have an answer for Amber Wetz who dished out seven kills in the first set. The Lady Rams got caught playing on their heels and dropped the first game 25-15.

Wesleyan rebounded nicely in the second set with help from Haelee Horne, Katherine Rosenbush, and Kristen Venhuizen who teamed up for 13 kills and the Lady Rams found themselves with a comfortable 19-14 lead. The Lady Comets would not be out done and came back to tie the game at 24 with a kill from Wetz. Attacking errors hurt the Lady Rams who fell 27-25 in the second.

The Lady Rams kept the third set close tying the set at 10 all, but the Lady Comets took control from there and picked up their first win of the season winning 25-16.

“We just came out a little flat tonight”, said Head Coach Christy Clawson, “there wasn’t enough movement on defense and we couldn’t capitalize on the UT-Dallas mistakes.”

Venhuizen led the Lady Rams with seven kills to go along with 12 digs. Evoni Darling tacked on 28 assists, while Marissa Rangel and Stephanie Dominguez had 14 digs each. Rosenbush and Horne finished with nine and seven kills respectively.

The Lady Rams look to rebound as they travel to the University of St. Thomas-Houston on September 4. Game time is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.
